Brief
Gov. Mike Dunleavy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom and their spouses greeted hundreds of Alaskans at the governor’s annual holiday open house Tuesday night in Juneau.
An annual tradition since 1913, the event was canceled for two years during World War II and in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was Dahlstrom’s first attendance as lieutenant governor, and she was accompanied by her husband, Kit. Dunleavy was accompanied by first lady Rose Dunleavy, and each shook the hands of attendees as they passed through the governor’s mansion.
A series of invited musical acts performed in the mansion’s downstairs living room, and state officials passed out cookies and hot cider to those lined up outside.
Answering a series of rapid-fire questions from the Juneau Empire, Dunleavy said his favorite Christmas movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life,” his favorite Christmas song is “Silent Night,” his favorite Christmas TV series are the Bob Hope holiday specials, and his favorite cookie is chocolate chip.
