Internships

Application deadline for the summer 2023 Internship: Dec. 31, 2022

The Alaska Beacon plans to hire a paid intern for next summer who wants to learn about reporting on state government and state politics in the most beautiful state. We’re interested in hiring candidates who have a current interest in journalism, as well as candidates who may have not considered the field before but are curious and inquisitive.

The Beacon values diversity, including Indigenous perspectives that are underrepresented in Alaska news media.

Currently, we plan to have one intern working between 15 and 40 hours per week, depending on their interest. They will be paid $15 per hour and be based in Anchorage. The intern would receive real experience, solid mentorship and the opportunity to write good stories at a nonprofit Alaska news outlet connected to an expanding national network.

Part-time interns would be expected to write roughly one story per week, while full-time interns would write two to three stories per week, with a goal of a larger enterprise story that they could complete by the end of the internship.

To apply, send a cover letter, resume and writing samples or links, especially of news writing, to [email protected]

The deadline to apply for the summer internship is Dec. 31.
